Stability of Atomically Dispersed Fe–N–C ORR Catalyst in Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell Environment

چکیده

We have investigated the durability of a platinum group metal (PGM-)free Fe–N–C catalyst in which Fe sites are atomically dispersed (AD), and found it to be quite stable standard accelerated stress test (AST) cycles normally used for low-PGM catalysts: square wave with 0.6 V lower potential limit (LPL)—0.95 upper (UPL) 3-s holds at UPL LPL H 2 /N , 1.5 atm, 80 °C 100% RH. Considering metrics employed characterize catalysts after 30,000 AST cycles, this PGM-free lost <50% activity, /air performance 0.8 V, 40 mV A cm ?2 . However, is less /air, losing ?50% activity just 7.5 h polarization measurements (load cycles). In combined majority loss occurred during load rather than concluded that, unlike that lose electrochemically active surface area (ECSA) through cycling-induced processes, (AD)Fe–N–C degrade by processes associated presence oxygen.

Catalyst supports for polymer electrolyte fuel cells.

A major challenge in obtaining long-term durability in fuel cells is to discover catalyst supports that do not corrode, or corrode much more slowly than the current carbon blacks used in today's polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells. Such materials must be sufficiently stable at low pH (acidic conditions) and high potential, in contact with the polymer membrane and under exposure to hydrogen ...

Mathematical modelling of the catalyst layer of a polymer electrolyte fuel cell

In this paper, we derive a mathematical model for the cathode catalyst layer of a polymer electrolyte fuel cell. The model explicitly incorporates the restriction placed on oxygen in reaching the reaction sites, capturing the experimentally observed fall in the current density to a limiting value at low cell voltages. Temperature variations and interfacial transfer of O2 between the dissolved a...

Design of ordered-catalyst layers for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell cathodes

In polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs), because the reaction rate in the cathode is slower than that in the anode, the cathode catalyst layers require more catalyst loading than the anodes [1]. Much research has been focused on improving the catalytic activity in cathodes and simultaneously reducing the amount of Pt supported by carbon black, which is the most commonly used cathode...

Polyaniline-derived Non-Precious Catalyst for the Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell Cathode

This paper focuses on a new polyaniline-derived non-precious cathode catalyst with high oxygen-reduction activity, verified in electrochemical and fuel cell testing. The rotating disk (RDE) onset and half-wave potential (E1⁄2) of oxygen reduction were measured at 0.90 V and 0.77 V, respectively. Rotating ring-disk electrode (RRDE) study revealed very good selectivity in the fourelectron reducti...
